“YOU WERE ONCE DARKNESS BUT ARE NOW LIGHT IN THE LORD

WALK AS CHILDREN OF LIGHT

                  As God Is Light So We, the Children of God, Being Children of Light

Ephesians 5:8 says, “You were once darkness but are now light in the Lord; walk as children of light.” As God is light, so we, the children of God, are children of light (1 John 1:5 ; Eph. 5:8 ; John 12:36). God is light, and we are born of God; therefore, we are children of light.

Being Not Only Children of Light—Our Being Light Itself;

Our Being Light Because We Are One with God in the Lord

We are not only children of light—we are light itself; we are light because we are one with God in the Lord (Matt. 5:14 ; 1 John 1:5). When we interact with people in our daily living, we will be walking in light because we are light. We have been born of light. God is light; He is light itself. We are light because we are one with God in the Lord.

When We Are in the Light,Our Being outside the Realm of Right and Wrong

When we are in the light, we are outside the realm of right and wrong (v. 7). It is a sorrowful fact, not a criticism, that many dear saints in their daily living are living by the wrong tree. In their living they are “right-or-wrong” believers. One thing I observed in a close way with Brother Lee is that he did not live by the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; he lived by the tree of life. It is important for us to realize that we are not in the realm of right and wrong; we are in the realm of the divine life and light. May the Lord train us to live in this realm. We should not have a daily living that is the same as unbelievers, who are right and wrong people.

If We Walk as Children of Light, Our Bearing the Fruit Described in Ephesians 5:9

The Fruit of the Light Having to Be Good in Nature, Righteous in Procedure, and Real in Expression, That God May Be Expressed as the Reality of Our Daily Walk

If we walk as children of light, we will bear the fruit described in Ephesians 5:9 . The fruit of the light must be good in nature, righteous in procedure, and real in expression, that God may be expressed as the reality of our daily walk.

The Fruit of the Light in Goodness, Righteousness, and Truth Being Related to the Triune God

The fruit of the light in goodness, righteousness, and truth is related to the Triune God. God the Father as goodness is the nature of the fruit of the light; therefore, goodness in verse 9 refers to God the Father (Matt. 19:17). Righteousness refers to God the Son, for Christ came to accomplish God’s purpose according to God’s righteous procedure (Rom. 5:17-18 , 21). Truth, the expression of the fruit of the light, refers to God the Spirit, for He is the Spirit of reality (John 14:17 ; 16:13). I love this expression— the Spirit of reality. We need to pray, “Lord, saturate my being with the Spirit of reality.”

             THEY WILL SEE HIS FACE…THE LORD GOD WILL SHINE UPON THEM”

Revelation 22:4a and 5 say, “They will see His face…The Lord God will shine upon them.” To see the face of God and of the Lamb will be a blessing of the Triune God enjoyed by God’s redeemed in eternity (v. 4a). God Himself in the Lamb will shine on us, and we will live forever under His glorious illumination (v. 5b ; 21:23). This is something eternal. This is what we will be experiencing in an unending way. There may not be a way to measure time, but suppose we have been there for eighty-seven million years; everything from God will be new. He will not repeat anything. Everything will be fresh and new. We have the eternal life, and we will live eternally under the shining of the Triune God in Christ.
